Methods

Data Processing

Data normalization was critical for fair comparison across precincts, adjusting vote counts to a common scale to mitigate the effect of varying precinct sizes. Transparency in the visualization represents this normalized data, where higher transparency indicates lower normalized values, and vice versa.

Data Visualization

The map visualization employs a color gradient to depict the percentage of votes for Nathan Vasquez across different precincts, ranging from light purple to black (lighter shades for lower percentages, darker for higher). Transparency indicates normalized vote counts. District boundaries are outlined in different colors for easy identification.

Interactive features include hovering over precincts for interactivity and a button to toggle between the full map and only the City of Portland.
